What’s Better, Having an Imperfect Partner or Flying Solo?
As single men and women in our complex dating culture, as we get older we become more selective.
That’s natural, as with each passing year we know ourselves better – what we want, what we don’t want, what’s likely to work for us and what’s not.
With each disappointment that comes, we learn not to “do that again” and so what we tend to do with the big pie of potential candidates is… we carve out whole sections of that pie as un-dateable, not ideal or not perfect enough, not worth the sacrifice, the compromises and the life change that partnership is… and so we fly solo for longer… and longer, and longer still…
This week in my world as a professional matchmaker and dating coach, I’ve seen plenty of vetoing:
Susanne’s got an idea in her mind that her guy should earn double what she earns. Likely because she was married to a guy who lost his job, couldn’t seem to regain his initiative and who fell into depression. She said “No Thanks” to meeting a perfectly wonderful man who is in fine shape financially and otherwise, but she feared wasn’t quite up to her standards in the financial department. So she’s flying solo still.
Bruce said “No Thanks” to meeting a woman who’s from a Jewish background, even though she rarely attends services and is happy to partner with a man who’s Christian or who’s not religious or spiritual at all. He’s got some idea in his mind about what it would be like to be partnered with a Jewish woman, from various situations in his past, and so he too is flying solo for a while longer. click here to check full article…
